FAQ

The principal purpose of O.T.O. is to administer initiation rituals and the ecclesiastical rites of the E.G.C., not to actively teach any particular system or practice of magic. However, local bodies may offer introductory classes, seminars, practical workshops, and instructional and reference materials on a variety of topics such as Qabalah, Yoga, meditation, history, mythology, symbolism, and comparative religion. No one is instructed by O.T.O. in curses, hexes, or any other kind of magic designed to harm another person. Therefore, you do not need to be practising magic(k) or similar to become a member, nor would it exclude you from membership.

INITIATION

The main function of O.T.O. is to provide initiation. Initiations are designed to be safe and private. At any time an initiate may ask to leave. The purpose of O.T.O. initiation is to develop the candidate into a better human being through the use of universal allegory and symbolism. Only people of good moral character will be considered for membership. All O.T.O. bodies operate under local laws. People who apply for membership expecting opportunities for illegal or sexual activities to be provided will be immediately rejected.

THELEMA

In brief, Thelema is the religious-magical/philosophical system founded when Aleister Crowley received the Book of the Law in 1904. Its principal tenets can be summarised by the brief phrases; "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law" and "Love is the law, love under will." This does not mean ‘do what you want’ but obligates us to do what is in our own, and humanity's, best developmental interest in accordance with Divine Will. Initiates have varying levels of interest in Thelema. You do not need to be a Thelemite to become a member. Membership is open to all reasonable religious beliefs.
